Last month, it was reported that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was pushing the front office to select Ja’Marr Chase with the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft.
Burrow and Chase had a phenomenal run together at LSU. During the 2019 season, Chase had 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. Many analysts believes he’s the top wide receiver in his draft class.
Though it would be fun to see the former LSU stars reunited on the football field, Bengals executive Duke Tobin dismissed the idea that Burrow is lobbying for Chase.
“I haven’t heard a lobby. I’ve been down in the draft room,” Tobin told Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic. “Joe is aware of the players that we have in front of us. I think he’s on board with anybody we choose from that group. There is no active lobby for any one or the other. I do think he’s aware of the universe and is on board with anybody we choose from that universe.”
Tobin, the director of player personnel, said that Cincinnati’s front office is going to do what it believes is best for Burrow.
“We are going to do what we think is best to make Joe as successful as we can be because the more successful Joe is, the more successful the Bengals will be. But the expectation is always to win. That’s his expectation, that’s mine, and that’s everybody in the organization. So we will take the guy we think will help us achieve that.”

If the Bengals don’t want to take Chase with the fifth pick, they might want to consider taking Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell.
Burrow was sacked 32 times in 10 games last season. Adding a potential star at offensive tackle would really help out the former No. 1 pick in the long run.
