Bill Belichick has a big decision to make.
For most of the offseason, the New England Patriots head coach has said that Cam Newton is the team’s starting quarterback. That remains the case, though it hasn’t been made official for Week 1.
Belichick admitted on Sunday night that the starting quarterback decision has yet to be made. Newton and rookie Mac Jones are both competing for the job.
“Looking ahead to the regular season, have you made a decision on who will start at quarterback in the opener?” a reporter asked following the Patriots’ preseason finale against the Giants.
“No, we still have a lot of decisions to make,” Belichick admitted.

Newton got the first-team reps on Sunday night. Jones looked good in relief, though.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide standout completed 10 of 14 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown.
New England is set to open the 2021 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Miami Dolphins.
At some point, the Patriots are going to have to make a decision on the starting quarterback. We’ll likely get one in the coming days.
