There aren’t too many NFL fans thrilled with the league’s 17-game schedule for the 2021 season. Brett Favre, however, seems to be on board with the new format.
While on SiriusXM NFL Radio this Wednesday, the Hall of Fame quarterback revealed that he wishes he had a 17-game schedule during his playing days.
“I just wish that it would have happened while I was playing,” Favre said, via ProFootballTalk. “I would much rather play an extra regular-season game or two or three than preseason. Yeah, you run the risk of injury or the percentages go up — I don’t know how much — but I would assume playing one series in a preseason game versus four quarters in a regular-season game the percentages would go up.”
Favre is a fan of the 17-game schedule in large part because he’s not really fond of the preseason.
“You know, I’ve said this my whole career. I’d much rather practice, study, do all the things you have to do, and at the end of the week play for real, versus maybe not even playing as some do during preseason. So I think [the 17-game schedule] is a really good thing. I just wish it would have happened while I was playing.”
Plenty of current players aren’t thrilled about a 17-game season. At least one former player wished there had been 17 games during his career. https://t.co/QPiXITLuJs

Favre was so durable over the course of his NFL career that we really shouldn’t be surprised by this take. He never missed a start from 1993 to 2009. That’s why he was labeled an iron man by his peers.
