A postgame comment from Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly is going viral on social media on Sunday evening.
Notre Dame topped Florida State, 41-38, in overtime on Sunday evening. The Fighting Irish and the Seminoles played an instant-classic type of game.
Kelly wasn’t very happy with his team’s execution throughout the contest. He made that clear while speaking to ABC following the victory.
“I’m in favor of execution. Maybe our whole team should be executed,” Kelly said.

Technically, that is what Kelly said. However, he basically flubbed a classic line from an old football coach.
Former USC and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach John McKay had a similar phrase.
McKay responded “I’m in favor of it” when asked by a reporter what he thought of his team’s execution.
Brian Kelly going with the classic John McKay line.
Q: What did you think of your team’s execution?
A: I’m in favor of it.— Pat Forde (@ByPatForde) September 6, 2021
The original quote came from John McKay, legendary coach of the creamsicle Bucs:
“What do you think of your team’s execution, coach?” asked a reporter. McKay replied, “I’m in favor of it.”

Kelly was clearly attempting to mimic this answer with his comment on ABC on Sunday night. It was a swing-and-a-miss by the Fighting Irish’s head coach, though.
Regardless, Notre Dame is off to an impressive 1-0 start on the season.
The Fighting Irish will take on Toledo next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. E.T. The game will be televised on NBC.
