The Bryce Young era is here. The former top recruit was nothing short of spectacular in his first start for the Alabama Crimson Tide today.
Young, a five-star recruit from California in the 2020 class, had to wait his turn last year with Mac Jones playing dominant football in his one year as starter. Now, he’s proving why many considered him the best player in the country entering college.
Against a talented Miami Hurricanes defense, he completed 27-of-38 passes for 344 yards and four touchdowns. Alabama had no issue dispatching of the No. 14 team in the country, rolling to a 44-13 win.
After the game, Young had a clear message. “Great team win, love my guys!” he wrote on Twitter. “Back to work tomorrow #RollTide.”

Nick Saban-led teams never take opponents lightly, but next week is one to work through some things. The Crimson Tide welcome FCS club Mercer to town for a 4 p.m. ET kickoff.
After that, things ramp back up. Alabama will head out for their first road game of the year on Sept. 18, at No. 13 Florida. Dan Mullen’s Gators are currently up 14-0 at the half against FAU in their opener.
Without a start under his belt entering the year, Bryce Young had pretty strong Heisman odds, coming in at +900 as of Sept. 1. He certainly looked better than the two QBs ahead of him—Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, who had a subpar game against Tulane, and Clemson’s D.J. Uiagalelei, who has struggled against Georgia—against decent competition. We could see him as the betting favorite when sportsbooks update their Heisman odds after Week 1 wraps up.
