Bryson DeChambeau Announces He Had Surgery Thursday

April 14, 2022 by The Spun

PGA Tour golfer Bryson DeChambeau.

PGA Tour standout Bryson DeChambeau underwent surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his left wrist, he announced on Thursday.

“Today, I underwent successful left wrist surgery on my fractured hook of the hamate,” DeChambeau wrote on Twitter, including a picture of himself in a sling post-op. “The surgery was performed by world renowned Hand Surgeon Dr. Thomas Graham. I want to thank Dr. Graham and the incredible staff and The Kettering Medical Center in Ohio.”

DeChambeau says he has been dealing with this issue over the last few months. The powerful 28-year-old has only played three events since January 10–Farmers Insurance Open, Valero Texas Open and the Masters–and has missed the cut at all three.

“Through continued discomfort from the fracture, it has caused me to alter my grip and swing, resulting in my inability to compete at golf’s highest level,” DeChambeau said. “This has not been easy physically and mentally for me. For now, I will be taking the appropriate time needed to rest and recover from this procedure and look forward to competing at the highest level within the next two months.”

The next major championship on the PGA Tour schedule is The PGA Championship next month in Tulsa. It seems unlikely that Bryson would be able to participate in that given the timeline he laid out.

However, considering he says he wants to play again within the next two months, the US Open in mid-June seems to be within reach. Most likely, DeChambeau, who won the 2020 US Open, would come back a little ahead of that event to shake off the rust.
