Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting was forced to leave last night’s season-opener with a brutal-looking injury to his right arm.
During the first quarter of play against the Dallas Cowboys, Murphy-Bunting got his arm caught between receiver CeeDee Lamb and his teammate Antoine Winfield Jr. on a contested touchdown pass. On his way to the turf, the third-year corner had his arm twisted in a disturbingly unnatural direction.
After the game, head coach Bruce Arians indicated that his player had suffered a dislocated elbow.
Now, we have further updates on the situation.
According to Tampa Bay insider Rick Stroud, Murphy-Bunting will undergo an MRI later today. The hope is that he’ll only miss 3-4 weeks of action, but there’s no official prognosis yet.
Arians will address the media later this afternoon.

Through his first two seasons with the Buccaneers, Murphy-Bunting logged 114 tackles, four interceptions and 11 passes defended. Before he left last night’s game, the former second-round pick notched two tackles.
Despite the absence of their starting corner, the Bucs were able to eek out a 31-29 win over the Cowboys in Week 1.
