Once again, New York Mets ace pitcher Jacob deGrom is battling injuries and his return to the team is up in the air. Meanwhile, Mets manager Buck Showalter had an update on deGrom that fans might find interesting.
Appearing on Carton & Roberts, Showalter announced that deGrom’s rehab has been “pretty positive” recently. He said that deGrom is going to be back with the Mets on Friday before returning to his rehab. Afterwards, he is expected to start throwing for the Mets again.
“It’s pretty positive so far. He will be here tomorrow and then go back to St. Lucie to rehab – and as soon as he starts throwing, he will rejoin us and do all his throwing with us,” Showalter said.
Jacob deGrom has not taken the mound since July of last year. He has 27 starts over the past two seasons with an 11-4 record but a dazzling 1.63 earned run average.

Jacob deGrom’s health has been just about the only thing keeping him from taking the last two Cy Young awards. In the past five years he’s started 122 games and has a 2.35 earned run average. He has been a finalist for the Cy Young in each of the last five seasons.
The Mets have no reason not to let deGrom take as long as he needs to get back to full health.
But deGrom is heading into his mid-30s this year. He can’t have many years left to play at this level.
