Bucs Starter Held Out Of Practice Again On Monday

September 7, 2021 by The Spun

Bucs defensive back Jordan Whitehead stretches before a practice.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are pretty healthy heading into Thursday night’s season opener, but safety Jordan Whitehead remains on the sideline.

Whitehead was one of only three players listed on the Bucs’ injury report following Monday’s practice, along with wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Gio Bernard. Both Bernard and Brown participated fully in the session, while Whitehead was held out.

As of now though, the four-year veteran has not been ruled out for Thursday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

“He’s working hard,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians said of Whitehead, via Pro Football Talk. “He’s working hard but hasn’t practiced yet. Mike [Edwards] has been practicing. If he can’t go out, then Mike will play. Mike played a lot of snaps last year, but we’ll still see. We have a couple more days left.”

Whitehead started all 16 games for the Bucs in 2020, compiling 74 tackles and posting career-highs in tackles for loss (nine), interceptions (two), forced fumbles (one) and fumble recoveries (one).

In the postseason, Whitehead made nine tackles, forced a pair of fumbles and batted away one pass as the Bucs went 4-0 and won Super Bowl LV.

Tampa Bay and Dallas will kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET Thursday on NBC.
