Carson Wentz Describes Feeling Of Playing For New Team

July 29, 2021 by The Spun

For the first time in his wildly eventful NFL career, Carson Wentz is taking the field for his new team, the Indianapolis Colts. As training camp begins, Wentz revealed what it’s like being on a new team.

Speaking to the Colts team website, Wentz compared the feeling to “the first day of school” and it’s got him excited. He said that he’s having so much fun and enjoying the setting around camp so much that he’s had to “tone it down a little bit.”

“I was telling coach (Marcus) Brady before coming out here, I’m a little amped up, gotta tone it down,” Wentz said. “[It] feels like the first day of school again, coming out here, beautiful setting for training camp, you got farmland all around you, my type of place. So it was a lot of fun out there today and like I said early on, had to tone it down a little bit and was a little amped up.”

Those are some pretty sweet words coming from Wentz. But he’s made it clear from the get-go that he was excited for his new home.

In five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Carson Wentz went 35-32-1 with 113 touchdown passing and a 62.7-percent completion rate. He went 11-2 as a starter in 2017, doing nearly all of the regular season legwork before an injury paved the way for Nick Foles to lead Philly to their first-ever Super Bowl win.

Wentz struggled to duplicate his 2017 success in the years that followed. Then everything collapsed for him in 2020.

After going 4-11-1, the Eagles traded Wentz – and his fairly bloated contract – to the Colts.

Wentz now goes from a team that was among the NFC’s worst to one of the AFC’s best. Indianapolis made the playoffs with Philip Rivers in 2020, but were knocked out in the Wildcard Round.

Will Carson Wentz return to his Pro Bowl form now that he’s with the Colts?
