Just about every single quarterback competing on a Power Five program this fall will deal with pressure from their respective coaches, fans and media. And yet, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic believes there’s one particular signal-caller who will deal with more outside noise than anyone else.
That quarterback Feldman is talking about is none other than Bryce Young from Alabama.
From a talent standpoint, Young has all the tools to be a legitimate star for the Crimson Tide. He has a quick release, he can throw the football from different arm angles, and he’s mobile enough to avoid pass rushers.
Even though Young has the makings of a superstar, the pressure that he’ll face this season might be a bit too much. Feldman explained why he feels that way during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.
“Because the expectation is so high,” Feldman said, via Saturday Down South. “For me, when you’re talking about Alabama, what’s different this year is (Steve Sarkisian) was great with quarterbacks. I did a story a couple weeks ago on the evolution of the Alabama offense and there’s been so many different hands in it, and so many different coaches who’ve come and gone there and made their little adaptation.”
After seeing Jalen Hurts, Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa have success in Tuscaloosa, college football fans are going to expect similar results from Young.
It’ll be incredibly difficult for Young to live up to the hype, but he certainly sounds ready for the challenge.
“There’s obviously expectations,” Young said, per CBS Sports. “For me, regardless of what happened in high school or any past experience I’ve had, coming to Bama is where you come for pressure and where you come for expectations.”
Young will get to show the college football world what he’s made of this Saturday, as Alabama will take on Miami in it season opener.
