CFB Insider Suggests Ed Orgeron Could Be In Trouble With Loss To Auburn

October 9, 2021 by The Spun

Coach O is fired up for the national title game vs. Clemson

Two years ago, Ed Orgeron was in the midst of leading the LSU Tigers to a national championship. Fast forward to the present day, and it appears the program is running out of patience with him.

During this Saturday’s edition of Big Noon Kickoff, college football insider Bruce Feldman revealed that Orgeron is facing some pressure from LSU’s athletic department because of the team’s 3-2 start to the season.

“Ed Orgeron is not even two years removed from leading LSU to a national title, but his seat is in fact warm, and it got a lot warmer with the home loss to Auburn last week,” Feldman said. “Now, Orgeron is 48-16 at LSU, but he’s working for an AD in Scott Woodward who is not the one who hired him.”

Feldman then detailed Woodward’s history of making huge hires at his previous jobs, like Chris Petersen at Washington and Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. He believes Orgeron could be on the way out if he can’t turn it around very soon.

“This is a big uphill climb for Orgeron now. They go to 5-0 Kentucky today, then they play Florida, at Ole Miss, at Alabama, and then Arkansas. That’s five top-20 teams.”

Orgeron has been the head coach of the Tigers since 2016. Though he might not be a great coach in terms of how he strategizes, he’s an excellent recruiter and motivator.

It would be a bit odd if LSU fires Orgeron just two years after he won a national championship, but it’s very apparent the university doesn’t want to go back-to-back years with a subpar record.

Time will tell if Coach O can stay in Baton Rouge for at least one more season.
