With the first week of the regular season about to begin, the Los Angeles Chargers had an important update to announce regarding the status of running back Austin Ekeler.
Unfortunately, Ekeler missed the Chargers’ practice this Wednesday due to a hamstring injury. He was spotted by reporters working off to the side with trainers.
The timing of this injury is brutal for Ekeler, who is expected to play a major role in Los Angeles’ offense this season.
Ekeler signed a four-year, $24.5 million contract with the Chargers prior to the start of the 2020 season. Injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential last fall, but he still managed to have 530 rushing yards and 403 receiving yards.

When healthy, Ekeler is one of the most versatile tailbacks in the NFL. He’s an exceptional pass catcher out of the backfield who has a knack for making big plays in the screen game.
If Ekeler can’t suit up for the Chargers’ season opener against the Washington Football Team, the coaching staff will have to rely on Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley at running back.
This situation will be one to monitor for the next few days, as Ekeler’s status for Week 1 is officially up in the air.
