The Chicago Bears are reportedly adding a veteran tight end to their depth chart.
According to a report from NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the Bears are signing veteran tight end Jesse James to a one-year contract.
James, 27, previously played for the Detroit Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers. The former Penn State star began his career in Pittsburgh, where he played from 2015-18. He was a fifth round pick out of Penn State in 2018.
The tight end then played for the Lions in 2019 and ’20.
James, a Pennsylvania native, has 150 career receptions for 1,460 yards and 11 touchdowns. Now, he’ll be taking his talents to Chicago.

James’ best attribute might be his durability. He’s played in 16 games in every season since 2016. James caught 14 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns last season.
The Bears head into the 2021 season with Andy Dalton as the team’s starting quarterback. However, many expect top NFL Draft pick Justin Fields to take over as the team’s starter at some point in 2021.
Chicago is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Los Angeles Rams in primetime.
