Colin Cowherd Has Brutally Honest Comment On Drew Lock

August 11, 2021 by The Spun

Colin Cowherd talks Russell Wilson trade rumors.

Colin Cowherd has seen enough from Bronco Drew Lock. The host of The Herd has made up his mind, and Cowherd’s verdict is not what Denver fans want to hear. During a segment of his show titled “Pay or Play” Tuesday, Cowherd shredded the Broncos’ third-year QB.

“He throws a ton of picks,” Cowherd said of Lock. “I don’t like his judgment. He’s like Baker Mayfield, but without the roster and without the talent. I’ve always thought his talent was overstated.”

Needless to say, Cowherd advised against extending Lock’s contract. Cowherd believes that, at the very least, Denver should employ a wait-and-see approach with the 2019 second round pick. However, as the radio host added, the 6’4” Lock possesses rare physical talent. As with another recent Bronco QB, Cowherd’s concerns are psychological.

“He’s got a wicked arm. You can’t deny that. He kind of reminds me of Jay Cutler,” Cowherd said. “He kind of seems indifferent. Cutler, who was a super talent, just never clicked. I think you’re looking at a less-talented Jay Cutler and that, to me — I’ll give him another 12 games. To be honest with you, I’d give him about 8.”

Lock is competing with veteran Teddy Bridgewater to start under center for offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s unit. Bridgewater is less physically gifted than lock, but the former Louisville Cardinal’s competitiveness is unquestioned.

Last week, Shurmur spoke to the Associated Press about the tight QB competition and Lock’s training camp performance.

“I’ve seen both guys getting better,” Shurmur said. “This is the best version of Drew that I’ve seen. I think he’s done a good job.”

Denver’s preseason kicks off Saturday, August 14th in Minnesota.
