The NFC playoff picture is already taking shape, but Colin Cowherd thinks we’re forgetting about one team as a postseason possibility.
On “The Herd” today, Cowherd contended that there are 10 teams vying for seven playoff spots in the AFC. In the NFC, he argued that it looks like there are only seven legitimate playoff teams: the Cowboys, Buccaneers, Rams, Cardinals, Packers, Saints and Vikings.
All of that leads us into the team Cowherd thinks people are sleeping on: the Atlanta Falcons. Winners of two straight, the Falcons are 3-3 on the season and currently tied for the final playoff spot with Minnesota, though the Vikings own the tiebreaker.
“They have excellent weapons, an emerging star tight end, a capable veteran quarterback, a clever offensive head coach,” Cowherd said. “Atlanta is the one team in the NFL now that we’re not considering a potential playoff team.”
Just when you think @ColinCowherd is out on the Falcons…

Cowherd has a point in that it is highly unlikely the NFC playoff picture is basically settled in Week 8. There is going to be a team outside the postseason mix right now that makes a run at a Wild Card berth.
It could be Atlanta. Sure, the Falcons’ three wins this season are against the Giants, Jets and Dolphins, three of the worst teams in the NFL. But looking at their upcoming schedule, there’s a path to 8, maybe 9 wins.
Might that be enough to sneak into the playoffs?
