No one across the college football landscape is willing to argue with the fact that Nick Saban is the best coach in the country.
His dominance in the sport makes that an undeniable fact. One way to eliminate him from competition, though, it to put an age limit and ranking the best college coaches in the country.
That’s exactly what CBS Sports analyst Dennis Dodd did earlier this week. He ranked the 10 best college football coaches under the age of 45.
Former Oklahoma and current USC head coach Lincoln Riley landed in the top spot.

Dodd explained why Riley deserved the top spot over names like Ryan Day and Matt Campbell.
“Only Riley could make Oklahoma a steppingstone job. (Just kidding … I think.)” Dodd said. “After four Big 12 titles and three College Football Playoff appearances in five seasons, Riley sought a new challenge in Southern California.”
“In becoming reportedly the game’s highest-paid coach, Riley made himself the biggest story of the offseason. He has the task of not only turning around the Trojans but making the Pac-12 nationally relevant. Riley is simply the nation’s best offensive mind given his collection of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks. OU transfer Caleb Williams looks like the next one in the pipeline.”
Did Dodd get the rankings right?
