A UAB Blazers defensive lineman has reportedly been arrested on a charge of third-degree domestic violence.
Tylan Kiere Jones, 21, was reportedly booked into Blount County Jail in Oneonta, Alabama on Wednesday night. He is currently being held there for 24 hours without bond as a court hearing is set, per reports from Carol Robinson of AL.com.
According to a Blount County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Jones is being accused of several acts of violence against his now ex-girlfriend, who claimed to have been dating Jones for four months. The report states that Jones allegedly choked, hit and threw the 21-year-old woman to the floor multiple times over the past month.
The reports only get more disturbing from there. The UAB junior was accused of kicking the woman in the head with boots on, smothering her with a pillow and beating both of their dogs until they couldn’t move.
At one time, Jones allegedly threw a kitchen knife at the woman, which stuck in her leg. “He then pulled the knife out and told her he would kill her if she told the police,’’ the police report said.
The woman obtained a temporary protection from abuse order against Jones on Wednesday. A hearing for that order is set for later this month.
UAB’s associate athletic director Ted Feely released a statement to AL.com in response to Jones’ arrest.
“Of course we take this news extremely seriously,” he wrote. “We will look into it and take any appropriate action that may be necessary.”
