Texas began this season with a lot of promise, jumping out to an impressive 4-1 record. Unfortunately for the Longhorns, it’s been all downhill since the Red River Showdown.
After it blew a 21-point lead in a heartbreaking loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 9, Texas came up short the following week against Oklahoma State. It had Baylor on the ropes on Oct. 30, but Steve Sarkisian’s squad blew yet another double-digit lead.
Following the deflating loss to Baylor at the end of October, Texas opened up November with a blowout loss to Iowa State.
Most college football fans assumed Texas would snap its losing streak against Kansas on Nov. 13, but the Longhorns actually fell short to the Jayhawks in overtime by a final score of 57-56.
The bleeding didn’t stop this weekend either, as West Virginia defeated Texas by a touchdown this Saturday. As you’d expect, the college football world had plenty of things to say about Texas extending its losing streak to five games.
Texas sucking is good for the soul.

Texas has lost six games in a row.
That’s extra ordinary.

I’m sure injuries play a factor, but hard to imagine how this Texas team boat-raced Texas Tech earlier this year
same Tech team that went to Morgantown and beat this same West Virginia team handedly

Tom Herman never had a losing record at Texas. Steve Sarkisian will have a losing record – and a six-game losing streak – in Year 1 after a 31-23 loss at West Virginia
— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) November 20, 2021
Dan Wolken of USA Today had an interesting comment about Texas’ recent losing streak.
“Tom Herman never had a losing record at Texas,” Wolken said. “Steve Sarkisian will have a losing record – and a six-game losing streak – in Year 1 after a 31-23 loss at West Virginia.”
Sarkisian probably won’t be on the hot seat after just one season, but missing out on a bowl game is an awful way to start his tenure at Texas.
