Deion Sanders Reacts To Facing Eddie George This Weekend

Two football legends will lead their respective teams into battle on Saturday night, as Deion Sanders and the Jackson State Tigers will host Eddie George and the Tennessee State Tigers.

During this Friday’s edition of First Take on ESPN, Sanders was asked by Stephen A. Smith about Jackson State’s upcoming matchup. Clearly, the Hall of Fame cornerback has a lot of love and respect for George.

“That’s my man, that’s my friend, that’s one of my confidants. I love it,” Sanders said. “Before he got the job he called me and asked me a few questions. And I assured him that he was more than ready and more than prepared. He’s gonna change more than the outcome of a football game. He’s gonna challenge those young men to be men, to be assets to their community.”

Sanders believes Saturday’s matchup may inspire other former NFL players to become college football coaches in the future.

“We’re not playing in the game, but for us to coach against one another and stay on a stage like this, this challenges other guys that I played with that I know they have a desire and a want to coach and take men to yet another level,” Sanders explained. “Coach George and I, and so many others that are in the HBCU level, are doing a phenomenal job [and deserve] to be recognized as well. We’re just getting the bulk of the attention.”

Jackson State defeated Florida A&M in a defensive battle last Sunday. Tennessee State, however, came up short in its season opener against Grambling State.

An upset victory over Jackson State would be quite a way for George to pick up his first win as the head coach of Tennessee State’s football program.

Kickoff for the Jackson State-Tennessee State game is at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
