Legendary quarterback Drew Brees was at the Los Angeles Chargers‘ minicamp this Wednesday, checking out one of his former teams during his time off.
Brees, who retired from the NFL in March, was asked about Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and what he’s seen from the youngster so far. It appears the future Hall of Famer is quite fond of Herbert.
“I’ve actually been really impressed with him,” Brees told reporters. “I can’t say I’ve spent a ton of time with him off the field. We played against each other last year, I saw him one other time this offseason, and I actually just had a chance to sit in the QB room for a little bit.”
Brees also discussed Herbert’s long-term potential in the NFL. He believes the Oregon product could be one of the best quarterbacks in the game due to his unique skillset.
“There’s no doubt his physical tools are as good as anybody’s I’ve ever seen. By all accounts, he’s a great worker, has great leadership qualities and has a lot of intangibles. I think the sky is the limit for a guy like him. I love that he’s in this offense now with Joe Lombardi.”

Those comments from Brees must be music to Chargers fans’ ears.
Herbert was a star in his rookie season with the Chargers, throwing for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns. If he can master Joe Lombardi’s system before Week 1 of the 2021 season, he should have similar success.
Do you think Justin Herbert will have another productive season in Los Angeles?
