It’s official – the Philadelphia Eagles are moving on from head coach Doug Pederson.
The Eagles fired Pederson on Monday following their 4-11-1 campaign in the 2020 season. Perhaps even worse than his record was Pederson’s mishandling of the team’s quarterback situation.
Nonetheless, Philadelphia is moving on. The organization released a statement after firing Pederson Monday afternoon.
The Eagles’ decision came after team CEO Jeffrey Lurie had a meeting with Pederson in which they discussed the organization’s future. By the end of the conversation, Lurie felt it was in the Eagles’ best interest to move on from Pederson.
“Coach Pederson and I had the opportunity to sit down and discuss what collective vision would look like moving forward,” Lurie said in a statement. “After taking some time to reflect on these conversations, I believe it is in both of our best interest to part ways.”

This is the right move. Doug Pederson wasn’t playing to win games throughout the 2020 season, and it wound up costing him his job.
The Eagles’ culture also took a major hit throughout the season because of Pederson’s mishandling of the team’s quarterback situation. It took way too long for Pederson to start Jalen Hurts and replace slumping Carson Wentz earlier this season.
The Eagles are now the seventh NFL team in need of a new head coach after moving on from Pederson Monday afternoon.
