ESPN Announces Huge Ratings For Week 1 ‘Monday Night Football’

September 15, 2021 by The Spun

A Ravens player tackles Raiders running back Josh Jacobs.

The Week 1 Monday Night Football matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Las Vegas Raiders was a wild and memorable one for anyone who tuned in.

According to the latest ESPN announcement, a lot of people tuned in. More than 15 million tuned in to the Megacast on ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes and watched the Raiders pull off a 33-27 comeback win in overtime.

That’s the best MNF Week 1 viewership since 2013 and the second-highest total in Week 1 since ESPN began airing MNF in 2006.

As for the Manning brothers’ portion of the Megacast, which produced a couple of viral moments and seemingly drew mostly positive reviews, it recorded an audience of 800,000 viewers, per ESPN’s release. That’s not a large number overall, so it will be interesting to see if it increases throughout the season.

It’s interesting that the MNF viewership in general went up so much, though perhaps that has something to do with the fact there was only one game this year as opposed to the customary doubleheader.

We’ll have to see if the trend continues in Week 2 when the Packers host the Lions.
