Kirk Herbstreit announced on Monday that he will not attend this year’s NFL Draft because doctors discovered a blood clot in his system.
After Herbstreit shared the news on Twitter, ESPN posted a statement supporting the College GameDay anchor.
“While we will miss Kirk at the NFL Draft, we want him to focus on his health. Our ESPN and ABC crews will have the event well covered this week, and we look forward to Herbie’s return to the Draft next year.”

Herbstreit will no longer be in Las Vegas for the three-day event, which begins Thursday night. He explained his decision to play it safe and skip this year’s draft.
“I feel good, but out of an abundance of caution, I think we’re just going to take a step back from this year’s draft coverage,” Herbstreit said. “We still have a great team out in Vegas with ABC and ESPN.”
Herbstreit’s analysis will be missed, but his health takes top priority. Let’s hope to see him back on GameDay and Amazon’s Thursday Night Football before covering next year’s draft in Kansas City.
