Texas football is getting an early look at one of its future conference does on Saturday. It didn’t go well for Steve Sarkisian’s club.
The Longhorns impressed in Sark’s first game leading the team against a ranked Louisiana club, winning 38-18. Arkansas had a surprisingly solid first year under Sam Pittman last year, but was still definitely a middling SEC team at best. Texas entered the game in Fayetteville as a 6.5-point favorite.
The game didn’t go according to plan at all for UT, falling 40-21. The Razorbacks dominated on both sides of the ball, outgaining Texas 471 yards to 256, with a 333 yards coming on the ground. Five Arkansas rushers had at least 44 yards, and four have scored touchdowns.
Arguably the biggest story of the college football offseason was the impending departure of Texas and Oklahoma for the SEC. Oklahoma has been a national power for a while. The hope for Texas fans is that Sarkisian gets them to that place in time for the move in a few years. Today shows they have plenty of work to do, and the non-Longhorns college football world is eating it up.
The good thing about Texas joining the SEC is that no one has to pretend they are good by about Week 3 every year.

Really embarrassing for the SEC to have Texas, one of its biggest brands, get outplayed like this in a non-conference game

Texas and Arkansas were longtime conference rivals in the Southwest Conference, until 1991 when Arkansas made the move that Texas is now set to make decades later. Texas football entered the day with a 56-22 all-time series lead against the Razorbacks, though Arkansas is about to make it four of six since the departure. The last game came in the 2014 Texas Bowl, a 31-7 Hogs win.
At the moment Texas ranks 15th in the SEC.

Texas gunna be playing a lot of homecomings in the SEC.

Of course, some former Longhorns are taking things in stride.
To clarify any confusion. #Texas is going to the SEC because of money. Not to increase their chances of winning. #Texas may lose on the field, but will always win in the bank! 💰💰💰
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

We’ve had a pretty crazy set of results in college football today, and Texas certainly won’t be victim of this weekend’s biggest upset. Fans love getting on Texas more than just about any program in the country, though, so the internet is on fire right now.
