In a bit of news that just about everyone in the sports world could have seen coming – granted, a lot sooner than most would have anticipated – the Bishop Sycamore story is getting a full media spot.
According to Chris Vannini of The Athletic, SMAC Entertainment, an entertainment company co-founded by NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan, has obtained the rights to tell the story of Bishop Sycamore head coach Roy Johnson.
The company intends to produce a documentary on the school, which gained national attention by getting ESPN to broadcast a game they played against the high school powerhouse IMG Academy. As part of the deal, SMAC has exclusive rights and access to Johnson for any and all television and film projects.
It’s a story that’s certainly going to have plenty of attention if and when if gets made. But the wider sports world is disappointment to see Johnson and the people involved in the Bishop Sycamore scandal get paid for what was deemed a scam:
The Bishop Sycamore grift was definitely to be awful, go viral and cash in on documentary money. Because otherwise they were really bad at the financial part of running a scam https://t.co/CSalfJScRh

What a come up for a coach of a fake school with a warrant out for his arrest https://t.co/SgnzWrEgDf

Through a combination of deception from Bishop Sycamore and shoddy research from ESPN, the Worldwide Leader in Sports broadcast the game against IMG Academy, which turned out to be a 58-0 blowout.
Audiences and even the announcers were baffled by the insane mismatch and the pieces quickly came together.
Then-head coach Roy Johnson, who has since been fired and later revealed to have an arrest warrant, was one of the key figures in the scandal.
It now appears that Johnson is going to cash in on the deception in a big way.
