Now that he’s locked in for the 2021 season, Aaron Rodgers looks to follow up his incredible MVP performance from a year ago. Donald Driver, one of the Green Bay Packers‘ all-time great wide receivers, sees big things on the horizon for his former teammate.
Driver spent his entire NFL career with Green Bay, playing from 1999-2012. His final five seasons came with Rodgers under center, after playing most of his career as one of Brett Favre’s top targets.
Even after winning the MVP a year ago, Driver thinks that Rodgers will have a big chip on his shoulder once again. If he wants to prove himself as someone worth investing in at quarterback for years to come, whether it’s the Packers or another team, he has to prove it this fall. Driver compares the situation to 2005, when he was snubbed as the No. 1 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers, who chose Alex Smith instead.
“I think he’s going to play at a high level and he has always tried to prove people wrong,” Driver told ESPN’s First Take on Friday, per 247Sports. “He did that when he came in 2005 when we drafted him. He felt like he should’ve been the first pick instead of Alex Smith. He had to sit behind a great Hall of Fame quarterback in Brett Favre and got the opportunity. We kind of knew he was there and could play at that level. From there, he skyrocketed.”

Driver believes that Rodgers will quiet all of the questions brought on by his contentious offseason with his play this fall. He also made his former franchise his Super Bowl pick, though he admits that isn’t a rare instance for him.
“A lot of people questioned when was he coming back this year. He made the decision. He made it clear. He’s back home. If he wins MVP again, they can’t question that.”

“I’m always going to say Packers are going to the Super Bowl,” Driver said. “I tell people all the time there’s always one play that takes you to the Super Bowl or keeps you from it.”
The future for Aaron Rodgers remains very unclear, but for the next few months, it sounds like everyone is back working in the same direction, towards a second Super Bowl of his tenure with the Packers.
