Giants Linebacker Receives 6-Game Suspension

August 29, 2021 by The Spun

New York Giants linebacker Ryan Anderson will not be able to play in the team’s season opener this year. In fact, he won’t see the field until late October.

On Saturday, the G-Men announced that Anderson has been suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the regular season.

“Ryan Anderson of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the first six games of the regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Performance Enhancing Substances,” the team announced. “He will be able to participate in Sunday’s final preseason game.”

Anderson is eligible to return to the Giants’ 53-man roster after the team’s Week 6 showdown with the Los Angeles Rams. That is, of course, if the coaching staff doesn’t cut him before Tuesday’s deadline.

Anderson, 27, started his NFL career with the Washington Football Team. He spent four seasons in the nation’s capital before making his way over to New York.

During his Washington career, Anderson had 86 combined tackles, 15 quarterback hits, six sacks and five forced fumbles.

The Giants currently have Anderson listed as their third-string left inside linebacker, with Tae Crowder and Devante Downs ahead of him on the depth chart.

Anderson will need a really strong performance on Sunday in New York’s preseason finale if he wants to stay on Joe Judge’s roster.
