Giants Reportedly Expected To Sign Veteran Running Back

Two-time Pro-Bowl running back Alfred Morris is reportedly expected to sign with the New York Giants early next week, per NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero.

The 10th year veteran is planning to arrive at the Giants’ training camp facilities sometime in the next few days.

Veteran RB Alfred Morris will get into the #Giants facility early next week and is expected to sign then, per source.

This won’t be Morris’ first time on the Giants roster. After Saquon Barkley tore his ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 season, the veteran RB was signed to the practice squad to provide depth behind starter Wayne Gallman and backup Dion Lewis. Upgraded to the active roster for nine games, Morris logged 238 yards and one touchdown on 55 carries.

With Barkley still on the injured list as he continues to rehab his knee, newly-acquired running back Devontae Booker is taking starting reps in training camp. And with Gallman and Lewis no longer on the roster, Morris could slide into that No. 2 spot alongside fellow backup Corey Clement.

After he was selected with a sixth-round draft pick back in 2012, Morris burst onto the NFL scene as an unexpectedly successful rookie with the Washington Redskins — logging 1,613 rushing yards and and 13 touchdowns. In the following two seasons, he then logged two straight Pro-Bowl appearances.

Following his time with Washington, Morris served stints as a backup for Dallas and San Francisco. Just two years ago in 2019, the former Cowboys backup saw time in just one contest for the Arizona Cardinals before he was released by the team.

If Morris were to have an impact with the Giants this coming season, it would be a pretty incredible comeback.
