Stay winning

Women’s Golf

Linn Grant and Arizona State women’s golf finished off Wednesday as Bruin Wave Champions. The Sun Devils as a team earned their first title at this event, while Grant has finished first as an individual at all three events this year.

Grant squeezed past Oregon’s Ching-Tzu Chen and Northwestern’s Irene Kim to earn the win by a stroke. Despite Wednesday being her worst of the three-day event, she played well enough to stay at +4 and come out as champion.

While Grant led the way for the Sun Devils, three others had top 20 finishes. Alessandra Fanali (+14) finished tied for seventh, Ashley Menne (+16) was tied for 16th and tied for 19th was Amanda Linner (+21). Arizona State’s +51 was still 14 shots better than second-place Northwestern’s +65.

The next tournament for the Sun Devils will be the Clover Cup on March 12-14 in Mesa.

Men’s Golf

Sun Devil men’s golf could not repeat as Cabo Collegiate champions. A year removed from taking the title by eight strokes, Arizona State finished fifth at the San Antonio based tournament.

Oklahoma won the tournament, 14 shots in front of Arizona State. The Sun Devils reached +10 after a solid round three but wasn’t enough in the end. David Puig’s even par placed him tied for 10th and Mason Andersen finished tied for 17th after going +2.

Men’s Tennis

To start a tough week, No. 21 Arizona State men’s tennis (10-1) beat No. 50 Tulsa (6-5) 4-3 on the road. The Sun Devils needed to gut it out individually after dropping a rare doubles point to Tulsa. Makey Rakotomalala took the first point with a sweep. Arizona State proceeded to score three consecutive points after it fell behind 2-1. Nathan Ponwith, Tim Ruehl and Christian Lerby all won their matches to put the Sun Devils on top.

The next challenge for the Sun Devils and their winning streak comes on Friday at No. 28 Oklahoma before heading to No. 2 Baylor on Sunday.
