Hawks Are Reportedly Signing Former Nets Forward

September 10, 2021 by The Spun

Kevin Durant drives on Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.

The Atlanta Hawks got a good look at the Brooklyn Nets lineup during their games this past year. Ahead of the upcoming NBA season, they’re adding one former Brooklyn forward to their own ranks.

According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, the Hawks are signing small forward Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. The French forward is coming off a two-year run with the Nets where he averaged 7.0 points and 2.4 rebounds per game over 105 games.

For his career, Luwawu-Cabarrot has averaged 6.2 points and 2.1 rebounds assists. He’s played for four different NBA teams and two G-League teams since going 24th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Luwawu-Cabarrot is also coming off a strong run with France in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He totaled 26 points and nine rebounds between the semifinals and final as Les Bleus won the silver medal.

The Atlanta Hawks aren’t exactly strapped for depth at forward right now. They’ve invested plenty of time and minutes into John Collins, De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, Jalen Johnson and others to keep pace with top-heavy Eastern Conference.

But Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot can still offer the Hawks some added depth. Given that the deal isn’t even guaranteed, it offers little-to-no risk in the event he’s able to start playing to his potential.

Will we see Luwawu-Cabarrot start any games for the Atlanta Hawks this coming season? Or will his stay in Atlanta be very short?
