Each year, the final pick of the NFL draft is given the iconic “Mr. Irrelevant” nickname.
This year, the title goes to Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy as he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the final pick of the seventh round (No. 262).

The 49ers were awarded this selection as a compensatory pick after they had more offseason losses than additions in 2021.
Through four seasons as QB1 for the Cyclones, Purdy logged 12,170 yards, 81 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. This past season, he led his team to a 7-6 record behind 3,188 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Many outlets projected Purdy as a “priority free agent” in this years draft.
Last year, the “Mr. Irrelevant” title went to Tampa Bay linebacker Grant Stuard. The 259th pick appeared in every game this past season, logging 15 tackles and one forced fumble.
Perhaps the most well-known “Mr. Irrelevant” is Buccaneers kicker Ryan Succop, who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the final pick in the 2009 draft.
