J.R. Smith Had Unfortunate Mishap At First College Tournament

October 12, 2021 by The Spun

Former NBA shooting guard J.R Smith playing golf.

With his basketball career over, J.R. Smith has enrolled in college, playing golf for North Carolina A&T. It is a very cool story, but the start to Smith’s college golf career has had some serious peaks and valleys so far.

In the first two rounds of his first tournament, taking place at Elon, he shot a 78 and 83. He sits in 81st place individually, and North Carolina A&T entered today at +18, in 11th place out of 13 teams.

Smith probably didn’t expect to have major health concerns out on the links, at least compared to his basketball career. Today, he reportedly found himself in a very bizarre situation after an errant shot on the 12th hole.

Per multiple people watching the match, Smith stepped in a beehive while searching for his ball. He reportedly received medical attention around his foot area, letting others play ahead of him.

Smith would wind up shooting a double bogey on the hole, his third of the day. After three more bogeys on the back nine, he’s at +5 for the day, and +24 for the tournament so far.

The fact that Smith is doing this at all is commendable though. It’ll be fun to track his improvement with North Carolina A&T during the course of the season.

And hopefully he avoids any more random bee incidents.
