Jaguars Are Reportedly Open To Surprising Trade

August 9, 2021 by The Spun

Usually it takes at least 2-3 years before a team is ready to cut ties with a top draft pick, especially someone taken in the first round. But it appears the Jacksonville Jaguars might be ready to part ways with last year’s top pick now.

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, “multiple team executives” believe that Jaguars cornerback CJ Henderson is available for trade. Fowler said that the Jaguars have given the impression that they’re actively shopping him.

However, Fowler noted that a source within the organization said things between Henderson and the team are good. He speculated that the team could hold on to him though there will likely be interest from other teams.

Henderson was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft following three superb years at Florida. He was a three-time All-SEC selection with the Gators.

But as a rookie in 2020, injuries kept Henderson from really making much of an impact. He played in eight games – starting all eight – and had 36 tackles, one interceptions, six passes defended and a forced fumble before finishing the year on injured reserve.

A source says things are good with the team and Henderson, who just returned from the Covid-19/reserve list. So maybe they hold onto him. But the team likes its corners and Henderson would have interest.

Talented cornerbacks are at a premium in the NFL these days. As offenses get more and more proficient at moving the ball down the field, the need for good cornerbacks rises too.

Even though Henderson only played in eight games last year, teams might happily trade an arm and a leg for someone with his potential. Three-time All-SEC cornerbacks don’t exactly grow on trees.

Would you want your favorite team to trade for C.J. Henderson? What would you offer the Jaguars for him?
