Justin Fields received a few snaps in the Chicago Bears’ season opener on Sunday night, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy the NFL world. Fans across the country want to see what the 11th overall pick can do as the team’s starter.
It’s no secret that Chicago will eventually hand the keys to its offense over to Fields. The front office traded away next year’s first-round pick just so they can move up the board and select him.
Fields showcased his potential several times in the preseason, and yet Andy Dalton was named the starting quarterback for the Bears. However, a change could be made to the depth chart as early as Week 4.
According to Fox insider Jay Glazer, the Bears’ plan is to not have Fields in any of the first three games this season. Once Week 4 comes around, the coaching staff may pull the trigger and start the Ohio State product.
“The plan was for him not to be the starter before Week 4,” Glazer said. “That one I can tell you without a doubt. The Bears were really hoping their defense would come up big, they’d be able to play ball control football and Andy Dalton would be able to manage that team and Justin Fields could just learn. They did want to take him along a lot more slowly than throwing him in there in Game 1 or Game 2 or something along those lines.”

In five snaps on Sunday night, Fields completed both of his pass attempts for 10 yards. He also had a three-yard touchdown on the ground.
Fields would add another element to the Bears’ offense since he’s capable of making plays with his legs. The coaching staff seems hesitant to start him, though.
It seems like it’s only a matter of time until we see Fields under center in Chicago.
