Jerry Jones has revealed his expectations for his Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2021 regular season and, unsurprisingly, they are high.
The Cowboys entered the 2020 season with high expectations. Unfortunately, Dallas lost its star quarterback, Dak Prescott, to a season-ending injury in early October. The Cowboys hadn’t played very well up until that point and were pretty lost the rest of the way.
Jones, though, believes the 2020 team had serious potential. And the Cowboys owner thinks that Dallas will live up to that potential in 2021.
The prominent NFL owner revealed his message to Cowboys fans prior to Week 1.
“I feel the team we were going to have last year (before COVID and injuries)” Jones said on a Friday appearance on 105.3 FM The Fan in Dallas. “I think we have improved across the board, both sides of the ball, our big-play opportunities … We’re going to be a good team.”
The Cowboys have been a “good” team a number of times in recent seasons. They’ve yet to be a truly great team, though, and that’s the level Jones wants his franchise to be at.
Dallas will open the 2021 regular season on Thursday, Sept. 9 against Tampa Bay.
Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. E.T. on NBC.
