The Dallas Cowboys have spent most of the offseason trying to crawl under the salary cap, leading to a couple of key losses without many significant upgrades.
Dallas traded star wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in what essentially amounted to a salary dump and saw Randy Gregory change his mind at the last second to sign with the Denver Broncos. Wideout Cedrick Wilson Jr. and guard Connor Williams also signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Jerry Jones nevertheless thinks his team is in strong shape. During Tuesday’s media availability, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota, the Cowboys owner said his roster is comparable to the squad that won the NFC East last season.
“I think we can very easily be where we were last year talent-wise,” Jones said.

He believes the Cowboys can return to the postseason without missing a beat.
“I’m not willing to concede at all that by the time we get to the playoffs this coming year that we won’t be every bit the team that we had going into the playoffs last year.”

Despite their offseason losses, Dallas managed to retain key players such as Michael Gallup, Dalton Schultz, and Carlos Watkins. Jones also has nine draft picks to replenish his roster this week.
Cooper will be particularly difficult to replace, but the Cowboys once again look like a front-runner to win the division behind a healthy Dak Prescott in 2022. However, getting just as far as they did last season would unlikely be enough to please Jones, as the San Francisco 49ers knocked out Dallas in the opening round.
