Few men in history, if any, have accomplished as much in two sports as Joe Gibbs has.
Gibbs, a Hall of Fame NFL head coach and multi-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, has excelled on the gridiron and on the race track.
The 80-year-old California native won three Super Bowls with the Washington NFL franchise. He was twice named the NFL’s Coach of the Year. Gibbs was named to the NFL’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team and has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In the NASCAR world, Gibbs is a five-time Cup Series champion and a two-time Xfinity Series champion.
Recently, Gibbs named the greatest sporting event of his career. It might surprise you.
“Boy, that’s a tough one,” Gibbs said on NASCAR Race Hub. “I’d say the championship. That means so much to you. But I gotta tell you, that 500, that was so hard to win. That’s a thrill. I’d say the one that we experienced when J.D. (Gibbs) went to be with the Lord – that Daytona 500 – I’d say that was the greatest sporting event I’ve ever been a part of.”

The 2019 Daytona 500 was extremely special for Gibbs. It came a month after Gibbs’ son, JD, died following a lengthy illness.
All things considered, it makes sense that Gibbs would go with the 2019 Daytona 500 as his greatest sports moment.
