Josh Doan, son of Coyotes legend Shane Doan, signs with ASU hockey

April 13, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM Leave a Comment

There’s a new Doan taking centerstage on the ice in the Valley.

Josh Doan, the son of Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan, signed a National Letter of Intent on Monday to join Arizona State’s hockey program, per the team.

A name we all know and love, but a new face & new story to be written in the desert. 🏜

Doan first announced his commitment to suit up in maroon and gold back in 2019.

The 19-year-old forward comes to ASU after spending the last two years as part of the Chicago Steel. In just two USHL seasons, he has recorded 32 goals and 47 assists. Doan also played for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes from 2015 to 2019.

A draft profile by Elite Prospects calls Doan’s work rate “something to behold.”

Considering the massive size disadvantage often at play, one has to applaud his courage. Even off the puck in the offensive zone, one can find Doan trying like mad to deploy an effective screen in front of the goaltender.

ASU hockey went 7-16-3 in a 2020-21 season that was spent on the road. The program traveled over 15,500 miles after agreeing to a 28-game road schedule with the Big Ten Conference in which two games were canceled.
