Josh McDaniels Names 1 Specific Area Mac Jones Thrived

September 15, 2021 by The Spun

A closeup of Josh McDaniels.

Despite a disappointing one-point loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Mac Jones kicked off his NFL career with a pretty impressive rookie debut.

Through the 17-16 loss, the New England Patriots QB1 threw 29/39 for 281 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions.

People from all over the league and within the Pats’ organization were quick to praise Jones for his solid outing, including New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

While Jones’ execution was pretty on point throughout this debut, McDaniels feels the 23 year old’s communication and command of the offense was what really stood out in his performance.

“His communication I thought was clear. It was consistent. He was loud,” McDaniels said, per NESN. “I always tell rookies or young players, if you’re not 100% sure, it’s not OK to be quiet. I’d rather them be loud and wrong than silent. Then nobody knows what’s going on.

“He’s always done a good job in that regard and I would expect he continues to do so.”

There were plenty of things to be excited about with Jones’ debut, but the No. 15 overall pick is still looking for his first NFL win.

Facing off against the New York Jets on Sunday, Jones and the Pats will look to put that milestone behind them.
