Just In: NFL Releases Statement On Deshaun Watson

July 28, 2021 by The Spun

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Sunday.

NFL fans were surprised to learn this week that Deshaun Watson is attending the Houston Texans‘ training camp, despite still being involved in an ongoing sexual misconduct investigation. The NFL released a statement on Tuesday afternoon to address the matter.

The league reaffirmed it is still reviewing the allegations which have been made against Watson. The young quarterback, in the meantime, is cleared to participate in football activities.

“The NFL’s review of the serious allegations against Deshaun Watson remains ongoing and active,” the statement reads, via NFL insider Tom Pelissero. “We are working cooperatively with the Houston Police Department and ensuring that the NFL’s inquiry does not interfere with their investigation. … At this time, there are no restrictions on Watson’s participation in club activities.”

The bottom line is the league is awaiting further information surrounding Watson and the sexual misconduct allegations against him. Until the NFL learns more, Watson is clear to resume participating in football activities.

The Houston Texans are in an interesting predicament here. They essentially are in the same boat as the NFL.

Deshaun Watson has made it clear he wants to be traded. The Texans, of course, would like to keep him around. Potential trade partners, on the other hand, probably aren’t going to orchestrate a trade unless the investigation surrounding Watson is settled.

So that leaves Watson and the Texans in limbo here. It’ll remain that way until the investigation is concluded.
