Justin Verlander was all smiles after learning that Miguel Cabrera notched the 3,000th hit if his illustrious baseball career on Saturday.
Verlander and Cabrera were teammates for a long time in Detroit. The MLB ace joined the Astros in 2017. Cabrera’s still in Detroit.
“Miggy, what’s up man? Congratulations to 3,000,” Verlander said. “That is just so incredible. I’m so happy for you and your family. I just wanted to say I’m so proud to be your teammate for so long and see so many of those hits in so many clutch situations.
“What you’ve been able to accomplish is nothing short of amazing. Congratulations my friend.”

Why is it so dusty in here? It’s hard to believe both Verlander and Cabrera are on the tail end of their respective careers. Neither’s done yet, though.
Verlander and the Astros are expected to compete for the AL West. The Tigers, meanwhile, will have to battle the Guardians, White Sox, Twins and Royals in the AL Central.
Cabrera has plenty more time to add to his 3,000-plus hits the rest of this season.
