Florida men’s basketball forward Keyontae Johnson, who hasn’t played since December 2020, officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Sunday.
Johnson averaged 14.0 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2019-20 and was named the preseason SEC Player of the Year before the following season. He was off to a strong star to his junior campaign before collapsing on the court during a game at Florida State on December 12, 2020.
That was the last time the 6-foot-5 Johnson ever played in a college basketball game. He reportedly was never going to be cleared to play by Florida’s medical team, so now he’ll look for a potential opportunity elsewhere.
Complicating matters is the fact Johnson was accused of sexual assault back in March. A 19-year-old woman alleges Johnson assaulted her while she was intoxicated during a February pool party in Gainesville.

Florida G/F Keyontae Johnson has entered the transfer portal.
Johnson has not played since the 20-21 season when he collapsed mid game.
Johnson was one of the SEC’s best players before the incident averaging 14PPG, 7.1RPG and 1.6APG in 19-20. A BIG name if he’s cleared to play. pic.twitter.com/3kE8AE3hcI

Not sure how this one will play out. He was an NBA quality player prior to serious health issues. Will be interesting to track. Wish him well obviously. https://t.co/yqFKd84FV6

This is interesting. Maybe another team will let him play. https://t.co/I1RIrLE0yz

If Johnson is cleared, and if his legal issues are resolved, he could be an impactful addition to a major Division I program.
However, both of those things are significant hurdles he has to get over before he is able to resume his playing career.
