Kirk Herbstreit Has New ‘Rule’ Suggestion For College Football

September 5, 2021 by The Spun

College football is home of the best turnover celebrations in sports, there’s no denying that. However, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes there’s a time and place for certain turnover celebrations.

On Saturday afternoon, Herbstreit suggested that teams avoid breaking out elaborate turnover celebrations when they’re on the wrong side of a blowout.

“Can we make a new rule??? If you’re down by 30 and happen to create a TO can we shelf whatever your TO ‘routine’ is…Just thankful and move on…just a thought,” Herbstreit tweeted.

This post from Herbstreit is most likely directed towards the Miami Hurricanes. Despite trailing 41-10 in the third quarter, they broke out the turnover chain after forcing a fumble on Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.

Miami also brought out the turnover chain after forcing a fumble while down 27-0. That situation was even worse because the fumble was overturned just a few minutes later.

Even though plenty of fans agree with Herbstreit’s suggestion for turnover celebrations, there are some who believe teams should always allow their players to celebrate.

“Players are in college for four years, some of them might get one opportunity if they’re lucky to enjoy that experience,” one fan replied. “Perhaps we should let them soak up these moments and celebrate the sport as a whole rather than just the focus on the final score.”

Do you agree with Herbstreit’s stance on this subject?
