Earlier this offseason, Kyler Murray and his agent made it very clear that the Pro-Bowl quarterback hopes to sign a longterm extension deal with the Arizona Cardinals sometime in the near future.
According to NFL insider Albert Breer, Murray’s expected deadline for a new contract is this year’s NFL draft.
“Cardinals QB Kyler Murray and his camp have long viewed the draft as a deadline for a new contract—we talked about this back in March—because if they were going to ask for a trade, they’d wanna do it before then. Putting the ball in AZ’s court is the next step in that direction,” Breer wrote on Twitter.

The NFL world took to Twitter to react to these reports.
“I think the likelihood of a trade is significantly higher after the moves that were made this offseason. Trade comp is probably somewhere between Watson and Wilson, and there’s plenty of new QB deals to use as a baseline for the acquiring team if the Cards balk at an extension,” one fan wrote.
“With 2 weeks until the #NFLDraft Kyler is either going to get PAID or things are going to get very very interesting,” another added.
Murray is set to earn $5.5 million through the final season of his rookie contract in 2022. According to reports from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, it would be a “surprise” if the star QB played under his current contract this coming season — especially considering the other big-time quarterback contracts that were landed this offseason.
The 2022 NFL Draft will kickoff on April 28.
