Every once in a while, we hear about a college football quarterback who throws for seven, eight or even nine touchdown passes. But never has an FCS quarterback thrown 10 touchdown passes – until Saturday.
Ren Hefley of the Presbyterian Blue Hose put up video-game numbers against the St. Andrews Knights on Saturday. He completed 38 of his 50 pass attempts for 538 yards and 10 – yes, 10 – touchdowns. His 10 passing touchdowns is a record at the FCS level.
As you might have guessed, Presbyterian won the game, putting up a whopping 84 points and giving up 43 to St. Andrews. You rarely, if ever, see a team score 43 points and lose the game. But Hefley was not to be denied. He was sensational on Saturday.
You won’t see another stat-line this impressive for a long time.

There’s a pretty cool side note here. Presbyterian is now coached by Kevin Kelley. Kelley is the coach who built a reputation by never punting when he was leading the Pulaski Academy in Arkansas. He won nine state championships in 18 years.

In true Kevin Kelley fashion, Presbyterian did not punt the football in its win over St. Andrews on Saturday. It’s rather remarkable the strategy worked at the FCS level on Saturday.
Ren Hefley, meanwhile, is a former Michigan walk-on. He then found a home at Presbyterian and has made the most of his opportunity.
This probably won’t be the last time we hear about the Blue Hose this season.
