Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott sustained a minor shoulder injury early on in training camp this summer, but the organization has maintained that he’ll be ready to go by the start of the regular season. However, a strange tweet from the franchise’s official Twitter account has somehow increased doubt that he will be able to play Week 1.
On Wednesday evening, the Cowboys shared that Prescott will undergo another precautionary MRI on his shoulder this weekend. When the team announced the news, it tried to downplay the fact that their starting quarterback was going to have another test done.
“It’s not a setback. And it’s not a reason to worry. But QB Dak Prescott is planning on getting another MRI,” the tweet read.
The Cowboys wrote a press release to try and carry on that optimistic tone. Prescott spoke with the media earlier on Wednesday and echoed that he would be ready by early September.
“Once I get back in the team setting, I’m not going to think about my arm,” Prescott said, via the team’s press release. “It’s about progressing at the right time. It all felt good out there. Every throw I made. When they tell you stop, you don’t want to hear it, but you (stop).
“Once Sept. 9 comes, I’ll move forward and won’t think about this again.”
It’s not a setback.
And it’s not a reason to worry.

Although the Cowboys clearly wanted to try and reassure their fanbase that their franchise quarterback was still recovering well, the way that the tweet came off to many who saw it was concerning. Many NFL media members took to Twitter to try and determine if fans in Dallas should be more worried than they currently are.
I’m not sure I have ever seen a Twitter post quite like this from a team account. https://t.co/3iAC8yGAvA

It’s very likely that Prescott’s MRI is precautionary and that he’s still on the right track to suit up for the Cowboys in Week 1. However, the team Twitter account would be wise to choose its words a little more carefully on matters like this in the future.
