The story of Portland Trail Blazers All-Star guard Damian Lillard and his potential trade status is one of the most confusing of this NBA offseason. But we haven’t heard much from the man himself on the matter recently – until today.
Earlier this week, Henry Abbott of TrueHoop published a new rumor about Lillard. Abbott reported that Lillard was on the verge of requesting a trade before the Olympics and would be willing to forego game checks to make it happen.
Lillard’s initial response to the report was to retweet it with a facepalm emoji. Then his Trail Blazers teammate CJ McCollum got involved.
McCollum pointed to the section of the report that said Lillard would be willing to give up checks. He retweeted it at laughed at the idea, and Lillard soon followed suit.

The rumors that Damian Lillard wants out of Portland have been circulating since before the 2020-21 season even ended. Lillard has denied the rumors at almost every turn, but they persist.
There’s no denying that Lillard would be an incredible trade target for many NBA teams. He’s one of the most consistent scorers in the league and a perennial All-Star.
Even if Lillard is insistent that he is not asking for a trade, there is always the chance that he gets moved anyway.
We haven’t heard the last word on this topic. Not by a long shot.
