Look: Illinois QB Brandon Peters Leaves Game After Nasty Injury

August 29, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Brandon Peters throws a pass.

If the Illinois Fighting Illini are going to defeat the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their season opener, they’ll probably have to do it without starting quarterback Brandon Peters.

During the first quarter of this afternoon’s game, Peters was on the wrong end of a nasty hit from Nebraska linebacker Garrett Nelson. The replay showed that Peters’ left shoulder was driven right into the turf.

Peters was immediately in the pain after taking that hit from Nelson. He walked off the field under his own power, but Fox Sports’ camera crew showed him leaving the stadium in a medical cart shortly after.

Since it’s very likely that Peters will not return, Illinois will have to rely on backup quarterback Artur Sitkowski for the rest of this game.

Sitkowski spent three seasons at Rutgers before transferring to Illinois. He finished his Rutgers career with 2,031 passing yards, eight touchdown passes and 20 interceptions.

Here’s the play where Peters suffered the injury:

Peters missed three games in 2020 due to COVID-19 protocols. It’d be really unfortunate if he has to miss extended time this season too.

Prior to leaving the game with a shoulder injury, Peters completed three pass attempts for 35 yards. He was under heavy pressure throughout the first quarter.

College football fans can catch the remainder of the Illinois-Nebraska game on FOX.
