Earlier this week, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that All-Star point guard Ben Simmons wants to be traded. The former No. 1 overall pick has been mentioned in several trade rumors ever since his disappointing performance in this year’s playoffs.
Simmons hasn’t publicly commented on his future with the Philadelphia 76ers, but it seems like the city is content with what appears to be an inevitable breakup.
During this Friday’s edition of Good Day Philadelphia on Fox 29, Mike Jerrick and the rest of the crew took an unwarranted shot at Simmons.
“We just got in footage of Ben Simmons leaving hastily out of Philadelphia. Let’s take a look,” Jerrick said before they showed a garbage can floating away at Brandywine Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

Comments like this probably won’t sit well with Simmons.
This report from Fox 29 pretty much validates Joel Embiid’s theory about Philadelphia fans being tough on their favorite team’s player.
“I haven’t forgotten but 2 years ago, I got booed, people in Philly wanted me to be traded. I even shushed them,” Embiid tweeted this week. “Only the real ones didn’t but I just put the work in that offseason to be better cuz I knew I wasn’t playing up to my potential. Philly fans, y’all also gotta be better.”
At this rate, it’s tough to envision a scenario where the Sixers and Simmons don’t have an ugly breakup. Hopefully, though, they can work things out.
